Songs from the Chapel

Sunday 7am-8am

Start your Sundays off with sounds from above. Every Sunday morning from 7-8, Corey Walker brings you the great gospel tunes of yesterday and today. Most shows featurea diversity of artists and styles, including southern, country, bluegrass and black gospel, as well as the ocassional worship tune. Listen to such gospel greats as the Blackwood Brothers, Christy Lane, Tennessee Ernie Ford, and Canada’s own George Beverly Shea. New songs are added to the show library all the time, so you never know what you’re going to hear. Let Corey help start your week off on the right foot, by allowing the melodies to focus your mind on the Lord and clear your mind of its clutter of conundrums, worries and regrets. Follow Songs from the Chapel on Facebook and Twitter, and feel free to request your favourite gospel song for Corey to play on an upcoming show. And if you’re a Canadian gospel artist, you are encouraged to send a CD to CFIS, so that your music can be promoted on the show.

About the host: Corey Walker has lived in Prince George since 1986, completing most of his schooling here, including university. He has a BA in English and history from UNBC and also holds a Provincial Instructor Diploma from Vancouver Community College. He got his start in the radio world with Re-Living the Golden Years with Corey Walker, an old-time country show that used to air weekly on CFUR in Prince George. An avid music lover, Corey especially loves traditional music, and has spun many golden oldies since starting with CFIS in January 2008. Corey attends the local Salvation Army Corps, and teaches an Adult Sunday School, which is open to everybone. Unlike most people of his generation, Corey still maintains an extensive record collection, consisting of LPs, 45s and 78s. He still adds to this collection whenever his budget affords, and he also has a small, but slowly growing Canadian stamp collection.
